FAMILY SELF-SUFFICIENCY (FSS)


The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program is designed to assist families and individuals to become financially independent.  Participation in the program in voluntary and requires a personal commitment by each individual.  In exchange, you will receive case management services and the opportunity to establish an escrow savings account.  The FSS Program is five (5) years in length and upon successful completion you can walk out with a check in the amount of the escrow savings account balance!  


Who is Eligible?

Anyone currently participating in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program or living in a Public/Affordable Housing development owned or managed by the Housing Authority of the City of San Buenaventura (HACSB), who has career/employment goals and wishes to achieve financial independence.

SELF-SUFFICIENCY (ROSS)


The Resident Opportunity & Self-Sufficiency Coordinator supports residents in identifying  their goals and ways to achieve them.  This might include connecting someone directly with services or coordinating available resources in the community to meet those needs.

Tutoring/Homework services
Scholarship Programs
College applications
Career paths
Life Skills
Certification programs (e.g. Childminding)
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Work experience
Banking and budgeting
Sports programs
Nutrition

SECTION 3 PROGRAM

Micro Business Opportunities & More.
The Section 3 program requires that recipients of certain HUD financial assistance, to the greatest extent possible, provide training, employment, contracting and other economic opportunities to low- and very low-income persons, especially recipients of government assistance for housing, and to businesses that provide economic opportunities to low- and very low-income persons
